Real Talk

Everything your laundry needs!

I have stayed in many AirBnB apartments before and having laundry is a requirement for me. When I vacation, they are typically at least 2 weeks long but usually 3-4 weeks in length. That’s a long time to go without doing laundry. I don’t know if you have ever attempted to do your laundry by hand in the bathroom sink…but it doesn’t get clean and it doesn’t smell good either. Just don’t do it!

I am not a fan of using laundry mats…because people wash the grosses stuff to be fully honest. Dog blankets are usually the worst. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE dogs, they are my favourite…but a dog blanket stinks and is full of hair. So when someone washes a dog blanket in a washer the barrel is always left full of hair, dirt and stink. Therefore, I do not use laundry mats.

So the only solution is to stay in airbnb apartments with laundry access. I am definitely a person who LOVES freshly laundered clothes, especially bed sheets. Even though I know highly scented products aren’t the best for you, but I love the fresh scents anyway.

I always travel with my travel size laundry detergent container full of my favourite laundry detergent to get me through the first several washes until I can find one that I enjoy. I have no idea where I got it from as you can see it is really old and well used…I think I have had that small container for about 15 years now.

I also need to have a product that will assist with eliminating static but fabric sheets are not environmentally friendly at all so last year I started using a wool ball scented with essential oils.

So for the first time ever, I packed a wool ball and some essential oils in my suitcase for my laundry loads.

Funny thing though…in Central America, not everyone has a dryer. LOL. For the first two months I couldn’t use my wool ball…until now, until Panama. So I was able to wash my clothes and bed sheets using my essential oils and wool ball and I was in heaven. That first night after I washed the linen…the sleep was a solid deep sleep in my freshly laundered bed sheets that smelled like vanilla and pineapples.

I highly recommend using a wool ball for your dryer with your favourite essential oils. It is also easily packed in your suitcase. I use a combination of Vanilla and Pineapple. Heavenly

BONUS TIP: When booking your airBnB it is NOT enough to just read that the listing has laundry. Be sure to look closely at the photos on the listing and that you locate the washing machine INSIDE your listing. The language barriers do not translate properly. For example, I asked this listing 3 separate times to confirm that the washing machine was inside the unit and only for me. They confirmed all 3 times but it was not. It is located outside the unit in the hallway and is shared with my neighbouring apartment. sigh! It could be worse though.
