I have stayed in many AirBnB apartments before but this is the first time that I am truly utilizing the kitchens because I am staying in each place for a month at a time. During the past two plus months, I have picked up a few tricks to help your airBnB experiences be more successful if you plan on using the kitchen.
Investigate
Take Inventory of Appliances
I have made this mistake three times now, I went grocery shopping without making a true mental note of the appliances and cooking utensils available. In my first apartment, I didn’t realize the blender was of questionable quality and there were no ice cube trays and I had purchased some things that would require the use of a blender and ice. As well, as having purchased coffee for the coffee maker that didn’t exist so I had to go back to the grocery store to buy instant coffee (yuck).
In my second apartment (both second apartments LOL…if you are following my posts you know what that means) I went grocery shopping with the intent to bake some things in the oven and when I returned back to the apartment, I realized that I didn’t even have an oven. LOL Yes, I made that mistake twice.
Things to ask yourself…Do I have an oven? Do I have a coffee maker? Do I have a microwave? (yup I bought popcorn and no microwave LOL) Do I have a can opener? (yup, made that mistake too) Do I have a grater? (I wanted to grate carrots but no grater)

Here are a few items that I actually carry in my suitcase because I know I will likely need them:
- Ice Cube Tray
- Small Bottle for Laundry Detergent
- Tea Towels (2)
- Sponge for Dishes
- Grocery Shopping Bag
- Spices
- Sharp Knife
- Water Bottle with Filtration (thank you Grayl)
- Measuring Cup
- Portable Drip Coffee
- Roll Paper Towel
- Roll of Toilet Paper

As soon as I arrive at the new apartment I go get groceries right away. If I don’t do this, then I ended up putting it off and then end up eating out or ordering too much take-out. So, I have a few things that I MUST get right away…most of the these items are because I typically have an extended stay at each location.
- Garbage Bags
- Toilet Paper
- Laundry Detergent
- Dish Soap
- Plastic Wrap
