The Calgary Zoo

Canada, Asia, Africa and Beyond

Now I have always felt some kind of way about a zoo. I have seen many zoos that just break my heart but when a zoo stands for so many noble things, and their goals align with my core values then I am supporter. The Calgary Zoo, located in Bridgeland, Calgary, Alberta, Canada is operated by the Calgary Zoological Society, an independent not-for-profit organization that is Alberta’s oldest registered charity.

When a zoo receives international recognition as one of the top zoos in the world for conservation research[wiki] I think that means it’s worth supporting. It’s truly an impressive facility and the accreditations just keep coming. The Calgary Zoo is also home to a team of biologists who have earned international recognition as North America’s leaders in the science of species recovery and reintroduction.Ā

The 100+ acre zoo is organized by several distinct zones:

Destination Africa

Trek down steamy tropical rainforest pathways alive with lush plants and singing, colourful birds. See gorillas, monkeys, crocodiles and more.

Prehistoric Park

Watch for triceratops grazing among the bushes, then look up to see fearsome T-Rexā€™s banana-sized teeth ready to tear into his next meal.

Canadian Wilds

Get to see some of Canadaā€™s most impressive animals as you wander along the forested pathways of the Canadian Wilds.

Land of Lemurs

Discover what lemurs do best: play, groom, leap between trees, search for leaves and shoots to eat and soak up the sun!

Exploration Asia

Journey through Asia where tigers walk the grassy plains and snow leopards lounge in tree branches.

Penguin Plunge

Surround yourself with playful penguins perched on rocky outcroppings, plunging into chilly water, and popping out of holes in the ice.
