Yo! Arrr, Arrgh, Yarr, Ga

Ye want to sail like a pirate, eh?

What a great day! I boarded a Pirate Ship in the harbour of Cartagena, Colombia at 8:30am and we started the day off with some Pirate juice (aka Watermelon Juice and Rum). After a short introduction to the ship, captain and crew we disembarked through the harbour for our destination at Fort San Fernando de Bocahica (Fuerte de San Fernando de Bocachica) and to spend the day at the beach of Boca Chica on Isla de Tierra Bomba.

The ride was about an hour ride and upon arrival we first toured the Castle of San Luis de Bocachica. I think this was my favourite fortress so far. It stood so bold at the edge of the island at the far entrance to the harbour, dominating and controlling the entrance to the Bocachica channel.

It has such a valorous appeal and had such authoritative control of the area…if a fortification could possess self confidence, then this fortress was oozing in it.

The Castle of San Luis de Bocachica, was a military fortress that defended Cartagena, Colombia shaped like a horseshoe. The Spanish built it in the 17th century.

Currently, Bocachica is currently a fishing village that has several beaches, typical restaurants and souvenirs which are available for visitors.

Following the tour of the great fortress we strolled to the beach and ate the most incredible fried fish lunch at one of the island restaurants and then continued the day lounging at the beach.
