Real Talk
Colombian Beer
I am no professional beer drinker, let’s be clear about that. Not in the career sense or the sporting sense. I do however enjoy a great beer with a flavourful journey. As I always say…”Craft not Crap”. So naturally, I would want to explore the beer selection native to this unforgettable country. The craft beer movement has brought a cornucopia number of new styles to the beer market. While I would typically stray far far away from the ‘un-crafty’ types back in Canada, some of the best beer I have had around the world are those 30 cent cans of cold refreshing liquid gold. So as I sit down, swirl, sniff, and slurp every beer like it’s a glass of fine wine, but some beer are worth some extra time. I will provide my honest feedback about the smell, the flavour, the finish, the shocking costs.
3 Cordilleras
Taste: Sweet. Natural freshness, full of red fruity flavours.
Feel: Light carbonation, smooth on the tongue.
Finish: Long lasting sweet fruity flavours. It was delightful, but it did change my palate and I was unable to switch beers after this one.
Cost: 13,000 COP ($5 CAD) 3 pack
Overall: This Rosé-type beer caught me by surprise. It has a vibrant colour which is common for craft beers in Canada, but apparently is characteristically strange for Colombia.
Jackelyn Approved
Andina
Taste: Faint sweet aroma, almost doesn’t smell to be honest.
Feel: Light, first like a lager, but finishes like a German Pils and Kolsch hybrid.
Finish: Simmers then fades. It has a really light hint of sweetness.
Cost: 12,900 COP ($4.50 CAD) 6 pack
Overall: This is a solid beer for a cheap grocery store beer. It was my go-to for a while.

Aguilla
Taste: Faint sweet aroma, almost doesn’t smell to be honest.
Feel: Light, first like a lager, but finishes like a German Pils and Kolsch hybrid.
Finish: Simmers then fades. It has a really light hint of sweetness.
Cost: 13,800 COP ($4.94 CAD) 6 pack
Overall: This is a solid beer for a cheap grocery store beer. It was my go-to for a while.
Jackelyn Approved (truth is it was so similar to Andina, I copy and pasted my review. LOL)

Overall: This is a solid beer for a cheap grocery store beer. Great for a cheap beer.
BBC (Bogota Brewing Company)
Taste: Heavy for a lager, slightly bitter taste at the time of drinking it.
Feel: Moderate carbonation, a little too fizzy for me. Keep in mind I prefer light carbonation though.
Finish: Honestly, I found the bitterness lingered for me…similar to an IPA’s long lasting flavours.
Cost: 18,000 COP ($7 CAD) 4 pack
Overall: While I wasn’t a fan of this particular beer…they do have many other beer available. I would have loved to try all the other ones in their inventory for a better well rounded opinion. I feel fairly confident that they have some beer worth exploring.
Club Colombia
Taste: Faint sweet aroma. Almost doesn’t smell to be honest.
Feel: Light Carbonation, thin, easy. At first like a lager, but finishes like a cross between a German Pils and a Kolsch.
Finish: Simmers for a short while and then fades. It has a really light hint of sweetness.
Cost: 15,600 COP ($5 CAD) 6 pack
Overall: Should note, that while it is best cold cold, I did give it a go room temperature and it didn’t crumble under pressure. Some cheap beer are unchuggable warm. This was still palatable but not my favourite.
