Sugar Cookie Decorating Class

To be honest, I wasn’t sure if I would enjoy this or not, but I was new to town when I took this class in May and I really just wanted to get out of the house, do fun things, meet new people…so I went to a cookie decorating class. 

My childhood was filled to brim with my mother in the kitchen, cookie and baking and baking and baking until the house was an oven itself. LOL She really baked such amazing things when I was kid. Never was there a party or celebration of any size was there without a highly decorated cake or cupcakes complete with chocolate and sugar moulds. Seriously, she amazed me…how did she have 2 jobs, 2 kids a husband and pets and NEVER drink alcohol. LOL. Undercover super hero 100%.

Back to the Cookie Class…the class was packed and people came from all over the Okanagan to attend the class, some people having driven 2 hours to get to it. It was held in a local Brewer after hours which was pretty cool so we were able to have a free pint included as well. 

Was it fun? Did I learn something new?

Yes, the class was a lot of fun. I had never decorated cookies like this before so I for sure learned a few things. 

We covered the basics to sugar cookies, some piping practice with Royal Icing, how to strategize the best ways to decorate sugar cookies, and covered the general concepts around dough and icing!

We decorated some super cute cookie shapes, perfect for Sprint. Cute designs featuring bees, honey, bears, hives, and flowers.

Then this happened!

A gag cookie just for fun

So, I was scrolling Pinterest one night and a cookie scrolled by and I laughed so hard, I was determined to try it out. It was perfect timing because my daughter was coming to town for a visit with some of her friends so I crafted up the cute little swim trunks, complete with packages for some comical jokester fun and they thought they were hilarious. 

I sent my mother a picture of the cookies and her reply was “cute”, so I said “look harder mother” and she said “you are your father’s daughter” buwahahaha. See if you can see what I did.
