Exploring Albania’s Wonderous Nature

Our journey towards Komani Lake began early in the morning for the 3 1/2 hour drive for our boat pickup. The journey started as we take the turn from the main road to Vau i Dejës and the landscape became more rural surrounded by wild nature and amazing landscapes.

After a short coffee break, we continue for another hour over mostly unpaved roads and arrived at the ferry boat stop to hop on a boat to get us to our destination. A location that is only reachable by boat with breathtaking and unmatched beauty.

Our first stop was at Shala River. A place this spectacular can’t stay a secret for long unfortunately. Shala River has its springs from melting snow of the Albanian Alps. The waters are crisp from the mountain run off and really creates a vivid palette of colours as the river weaves through the wild mountains.

After spending a few hours at Shala River and enjoying some local fried fish from the river, we hopped on the boat again to arrive at our riverside traditional guest house for the night.

After a peaceful night with only the sounds of nature, we woke up to enjoy a cup of Turkish coffee and tasty breakfast before we hopped on another boat to head down the river to enjoy some kayaking, hiking and swimming.

Bringing our two day adventure to a close was a delish lunch of more local fried fish, a car ferry boat ride back to the Komani Dam and our car. From here we started the drive back to Tirana.

What an incredible adventure, disconnected to connect with nature.
