Paradise just outside the city

Up, up and over

Well, today was my daughter’s birthday. It was the first birthday I wasn’t able to spend with her in 23 years. So aside from being forced to buy her love this year (hahaha) I made a sign and held it up on top of the mountain for her. Hopefully it was the perfect balance of moderately embarrassing her and also showing her my love.

The Bovilla reservoir is a massive reservoir in Albania, just northeast of Tirana and southeast of Kruja, within Mount Dajt National Park. It provides most of the drinking water for Tirana.

The two 1200 meter tall mountains create a nice cradle for the dam for the lake that offers a breath-taking view. While apparently, swimming in the lake is not allowed, there is an abundance of other activities to indulge in. Cycling enthusiasts can mountain bike, you can hike as I did today, we saw campers and fully equipped mountain climbers in case you are in need of some intense adrenaline.

We took an hour taxi ride to the lake and then hiked the mountain to the look out location for the views. It was such a great work out before 10am.

We only ran into a tiny curious little garden snake hiding on the mountain side but he hurried away as we approached. At the base of the staircase to the lookout is a really nice restaurant with incredible views. I highly recommend taking a trip out here to play in nature.
