Where are we?

Emerald Lake, Yoho National Park

It’s the largest lake in Yoho National Park, one of the most stunning BC Lakes, and surrounded by President Mountain Range.

I imagine that visiting this glacier fed lake in the Summer is equally as beautiful as it was in the Winter. Everything was frozen and you could walk out on the famous turquoise lake, and surround yourself with the nature, the sky high mountain range that was completely blanketed by snow. If you can’t find peace here then I don’t know what!

Emerald Lake is within easy reach of Lake Louise, Banff, and Canmore in Alberta and Golden, BC, so if you’re staying in the area you’ll want to add this oasis of a lake to your BC bucket list.

I stayed at the Emerald Lake Lodge, which was originally built in 1920. The lodge is built on the peninsula that extends into the lake and provides an island like feel as it is entirely circled by the lake, or in my case in the winter it was surrounded by an ice field. Emerald Lake Lodge features rooms with wood burning fireplaces which is an INCREDIBLE feature that I absolutely loved, falling asleep to the crackling of the fire. There are a few onsite restaurants and a lounge as well, and the food was incredible for the dinner service.

Be prepared to be unplugged, there is no cell service here…which means you are there to do what you are supposed to do, be immersed in serenity and nature, exploring the hiking paths, reading a book by the fire. All the things the dreams are made of.

FUN FACT:
The first European to discover the lake was Tom Wilson in 1882 who was actually trying to find some horses who had wandered away nearby. He’s responsible for naming this lake Emerald Lake
