Jamaica
Out of Many, One People
Irie Life
Jamaica is the 3rd largest island in the Caribbean Sea. It has had a tumultuous history. Originally inhabited by indigenous peoples, it was invaded by the Spanish after Christopher Columbus arrived. With that invasion also came diseases that killed many of the indigenous. After that, the Spanish flooded the island with African slaved transported to Jamaica as labourers. Then it was invaded by the English who conquered it who eventually emancipated the slaves. Finally became independent in the mid 60s.
Jamaica is known for many things, leaders in sugar exports, birthplace of Rastafari, reggae music, Jerk Chicken, notable Jamaicans like Marcus Garvey, Bob Marley, Usain Bolt, and of course the Irie life.
I visited years and years ago. I will go back and fill in some details about the cities that I visited soon.
