Renting a jeep gave us the flexibility to roam. We started early, navigating rural roads lined with sugarcane fields and palm trees swaying in the breeze. Out of nowhere, one of the locals decided I was the love of his life and dropped to one knee to propose! Yes, apparently I now have a fiancé waiting for me in Cuba (don’t worry—I didn’t accept). Meanwhile, my 14-year-old daughter was sitting in the jeep, wide-eyed and absolutely stunned. Her expression said it all: “Mom… what is happening right now?!” We laughed until tears rolled down our cheeks, and honestly, it’s one of those travel stories that will live forever in family lore.
