Blind Tasting Class

I wasn’t exactly sure what a blind tasting class was, so I said why the heck not.

Long long ago when I lived in Vancouver, my neighbourhood pub had a massive list of beer on tap and I used to play this game where I would ask the server to just pick 1 beer from each category and bring me a mystery flight. Then I would taste the beer and narrow down my selection. Once I had decided on which beer was which, the server would come back and present me with the ones they had chosen. It was a fun little thing to do while sitting in the pub. (FYI, also a fun thing to do on date…see if they are Craft of Crap studs buwahahaha) My own personal little standards test.

So, I wasn’t sure what to expect with this class, and me being a lower than novice wine drinker I was excited to see what was what.

The class was packed, it was a full house and it was downstairs in the cellar. If you haven’t been to Arrowleaf Cellars in Lake Country, BC, it is a stunning venue with world class views of the lake.

We all took our place at the table and at each spot we had some tasting glasses, a breakdown sheet and wheel chart (which I kept and has come in very handy for me)

what kind of wine is this?

Red…no wait it’s White

Some of the people in the class were impressive to be honest. When the instructor asks us what we think the kind of wine is and my answer is “White” vs “Red”…some of the classmates went deep picking exactly the kind of wine it was. Right then and there I knew I had a long way to go.

No shame though, wine may not be my forte but I have the palate for beer and food. buwahaha

This class was a fun, introductory guided tasting of four mystery wines led by one of the in-house experts. They said to leave your preconceived notions at the door as you work through the wine tasting basics of look, smell and taste. But since I knew nothing about wine I had no preconceived notions.  LOL

Final Thoughts

I would totally take another class like this and they have several different tasting classes. I will be back 100%.

cream puff anyone?

Um, 1000% YES!

To end the day, I left with some homemade cream puffs…I mean just look at those things, exquisite. They were extremely beautiful and delicate and I can say that I intensely felt it. It tasted like hopes and dream.

Now You Know!

Arrowlead Cellars

Arrowleaf is a family-owned and operated winery founded in 2001 by the Zuppiger family. In 1986, Joe and Margrit Zuppiger and their five children immigrated to Canada from Switzerland (the Zurich area) where they had been operating an organic orchard and dairy farm. They continued dairy farming in Alberta, settling south of Edmonton. After 10 years in the dairy business they moved to the Okanagan and purchased Suncrest Vineyard and two years later, the Carter Farm, the current location of the winery. For the first five years they grew grapes for Gray Monk Winery with the eventual goal of establishing their own winery.
