New Profession?

Or Just a New Obsession?

This 2-hour workshop began by exploring and learning about the 29 fragrant notes that make up their library of fragrances.

The Perfume Atelier workshops are simply brilliant. I LOOOOOOVED it. It’s such a unique thing to do, creating your own custom perfume from your adventures. They also do custom wedding perfume and Bespoke creations for your hotel, spa, and events. They also do full education on how to truly develop your nose to become a Perfumer.

First step was to get educated on the different levels that make up a perfume. Then I needed to smell the 29 fragrances and select all the ones that I liked at first.

I put a drop of each scent on its own paper so that I can mix and match to find that perfect harmony that makes me say “That’s It!”

As the owner and founder of The Perfume Atelier wrote in the course “Perfume is a musical metaphor”. The fragrance notes typically have top, middle and base notes. While the top notes are typically fresh, they leave the first impression. The middle notes or the heart notes are the soul of the fragrance and are typically floral and last several hours. The base notes can last up to 24 hours and they usually reach their full potential after about 30 minutes and supply the perfume with their fullness.

When I arrived, I assumed that I would for sure walk out with something with raspberry and caramel and interestingly enough, my final product had neither. I found a combination that smelled like Cotton Candy and we made a tiny sample to try but I decided that it was too teeny bopper of a scent for an adult to wear. LOL Even though it wasn’t the combination that would ultimately become ‘mine’ I decided to give it a name anyway and I named it The Britney Spears. buwahaha That was Test Sample 3.

Test Sample 1 was a combination of Vanilla, Raspberry, Bergamot and Amber. At first I decided that Test Sample 1 was far too Bergamot scented so we reformulated the ratios and created Test Sample 2. Test Sample 1 went on the right wrist and Test Sample 2 went on my left wrist. While Test Sample 1 had a stronger first impression than Test Sample 2, it had a much more balanced lingering impression.

But even after 3 Test Samples, I wasn’t 100% sure, so I asked to make a 4th Test Sample.  So I went back to the drawing board and mixed and matched the papers until an ‘aha moment’ happened. Even the instructor’s eyes lit up and said “I think you have something very special here”. And so, my custom fragrance was born. The hardest part, was figuring out what to call it. Obviously, calling it Jackelyn would be too mainstream, naming it after myself.  Then I played with the idea of calling it “It Was Worth It” but that’s not the name of a fragrance. Then the light bulb moment….”The Journey”, appropriately named after my Experimental Journey that I have called my current life’s mission.

Becoming a Perfumer at The Perfume Atelier in Belgrade…Definitely Jackelyn Approved.

If you smell me around town (buwahaha) that’s my secret blend, “The Journey” by Jackelyn in Belgrade.
