One Final Adventure

Ending the Journey by Sea

While technically, I believe we are crossing the Gulf of Finland…the saying “Ending the Journey by Sea” rolls off the tongue a little better. LOL So an intentionally incorrect statement for poetic purposes.

Taking the ferry from Tallinn to Helsinki is a popular and scenic way to travel between these two Baltic capitals. The journey, which takes around 2 hours, offers stunning views of the Gulf of Finland and is an experience in itself. Ferries depart several times a day, making it a convenient option for both day-trippers and longer stays.

Onboard, we booked ourselves into a private suite with our own bathroom and pre-ordered a charcuterie board with Cava to relax and enjoy the journey by boat back to Helsinki. The final adventure to round out our two week trip.

If you don’t want to book a private suite, you can relax in comfortable seating areas, enjoy meals at restaurants, or even do some duty-free shopping. The ferries also feature entertainment, such as live music or children’s play areas, ensuring a pleasant experience for passengers of all ages.

The ferry ride provides a unique perspective on the region’s maritime culture. Watching the Tallinn skyline fade into the distance and Helsinki’s modern harbor come into view is a highlight of the trip.

However, scenery aside, this ship is epic. It’s elegant and inviting and it felt like I was on a luxury cruise ship. It’s a remarkable experience to be on a commuter ship with this level of decorum. Having grown up on Vancouver Island, off the coast of BC and being a frequent commuter on the BC Ferries, this is the Holt Renfrew of commuter ships for a fraction of the cost of a 2 hour BC ferry ride. It left me speechless to be fully honest.

Every single bit of this experience was digital and seamless. From the moment of booking the ticket online, to pre-check in the day before, just like the airlines do, getting the boarding pass and even getting the key to our suite was ALL completely done via the APP. We could even unlock our suite with the APP. It was top notch. I actually really want to return to take the ferry again but on an overnight experience as well so I can get the full experience.

I have read that those traveling during summer, the sun-drenched waters and fresh sea breeze make for an unforgettable experience, while for our journey during the January winter month, we had a chance to witness the serene beauty of the icy sea.

The ferry between Tallinn and Helsinki is more than just transportation—it’s a memorable part of our journey.
