Rich in history and tradition, Krujë also known as the city of Skanderbeg and is Albania’s epicenter of independence from the Ottoman Empire. Krujë is where Skanderbeg, Albania’s greatest national hero, defended the country from the the Ottomans until his very last day. Skanderbeg has an almost mythical reputation and I have heard that he won nearly 25 battles having only lost 2.
The National Museum dedicated to the hero is inside the walls of the famous Krujë Castle and shows both the hero’s history and the traditions of life of the city. Krujë’s famous bazaar is almost like a passage between the past and present and offers an impressive selection of artisanal traditional products made by local artisans, by hand in their shops in the bazaar.
Krujë is an imperative destination for every visitor and is most definitely a city that shouldn’t be missed in Albania.
I was madly in love with the city and its charms, as well as its very unique positioning perched high on the mountain slopes. Peaceful and traditional and offers a dive deep into local history and culture.
