Learning the Art of Stained Glass

If you follow along on my adventures, I am always looking for something new to learn. Perfume making in Serbia, purse making in Albania, pottery, tennis…my list is never ending. But on the top of the list for a long time has been Shoe making and Stained Glass.  Well, after a LOT of searching, I finally found a place here in my new hometown that teaches the art of stained glass. So I had my first lesson and I only walked away having bled once. BUWAHAHAHA. Let’s be clear, there are shards of glass and lots of it.

Introduction to Caming

Welcome to a whole new world of terminology. LOL I think my most commonly spoken sentence was “What’s that now?”. Words like, fusing and not fusing glass, float glass, not floating glass, old and new glass and Kokomo, yogi, iri, caming, foiling…

This Beginner Lead Caming workshop was a 1 day introductory class on the fundamentals of building a lead came window. They covered pattern making, simple design rules, cutting glass to patterns, and building your window using lead came. I learned soldering, applying patina and waxing. We had 3 different patterns to chose from and we were off to the races. I learned a INCREDIBLE amount of new information, this world of glass was brand to new to me. 

While picking my coloured glass for my project, every time I saw another piece of glass I gasped, literally…they were so many incredible pieces, I had no idea this world existed. It Was Worth It

I loved it! I am signed up for 2 more workshops with them and I can’t wait. I will remember to bring bandaids. buwahahahha

FUN FACT:
They also rent their studio space if you wanted to go in and do some self guided projects. They have 2 studio spaces available for rental at just $8 an hour. Renting is available anytime on weekdays.
